 2 Colored Angoras arrive!
 Chica's real name found!!!

We've moved to Orange, VA

Welcome to Pun Kids Farm

Before....

Until very recently we just a normal family with fairly normal pets. Lots of dogs, some cats, and the odd group of hermit crabs.  Before moving back to Culpeper, VA we even had a couple of rabbits, but nothing truly different from what every other suburban family might have.  Then we moved out into the county and the kids became old enough for 4H...

and so now... PUN KIDS FARM!

We've always loved animals and with 4H and adequate land, there was no holding us back.  First came the Nigerian Dwarf goats.   Then a rescued La Mancha doe who had been through an unbelievably hard life.  And then a couple of silkie roosters... so then we needed some hens (the first were hand-me-downs donated by a friend), then pygora goats and a few more "stewpot" (check out Puffy on our Chicken page) hens, and now we've got an ever-growing flock.  Then the Muscovies and so - on.

La Manchas and Mini-Manchas have joined the herd! And then Recorded Grades, and Oberhasli.... this could get out of hand

NEW!!!!

Goat Babies!
Babies seem to always be arriving so check the various breeds to see what's happening!

The Night Guard
Our Guinea pair, Dumb and Dumber have figured out that the porch is the best place to roost since the food is stored (and often spilled) there.  We have recently added Stupid and Silly to the flock as well.

Crazy animals!
These crazy things! You never know what you're going to find when you check in on the goats. In the picture on the left, I pulled up in my car to find April Showers (the small, brown goat with the white collar) standing on Harold the llama's back! I quickly snapped the picture from my car as I knew he'd stand up when I got out (you should have seen her fly off).  On the right, the cat (Fizz) is watching something while being watched by Chili (the wether on the spool) and Zippity Aye on the ground.  In the picture, Zippity Aye is 2-3 weeks old and about the size of the cat.

Here at Pun Kids Farm we have Nigerian Dwarf & full-size dairy are goats available.  Check out our various goat pages to see who is available and when kids are due.  We also have both Nigerian and Pygora bucks available for stud/sale.

General Information

All of our kids are handled excessively by our family.  We do disbud kids for safety reasons, although Midnight came to us with horns and  bucks have more a problem with scurs (leftover horn stubs) than do does.  That being said, Ziggy will have horns because he escaped disbudding when Zuri was born and required a lot of extra care.  We practice CAE prevention and test using WADDL-WSU.

Other animals in the pasture

We generally raise our animals communally to let the chickens handle the bugs in the goat pasture.  In return, the goats/llama watch out for the chickens. This works out very, very well for us.

  • Harold: our always nosy guard llama who is a big walking appetite. Keeping him from getting fat is a constant struggle and means guarding the goats while they eat.  Sadly, Harold passed away on December 26, 2009.  He is greatly missed.
  • Thor & Loki: our 2 alpacas that reside out by the barn to keep an eye on the babies.  They aren't really sociable but they are good at being disagreeable to everything besides goats and chickens.
  • Chica: our rescued La Mancha doe who has finally reached a normal weight. She was starved and uncared for before she was rescued with many other animals from an abusive situation in King George.  We finally found Chica's original breeder and obtained her papers!
  • Dumb and Dumber: our two guineas.  The sum of their intelligence wouldn't fill a teaspoon but they are entertaining.
  • Fizz: our wonderful black barn cat (thanks Heather!).  Fizz keeps our rodent population under control and is always looking for attention.  Even better, he doesn't bother chicks or chickens.
